Academic Program
Education is the key to success in today’s challenging world. Chautauqua Striders is dedicated to providing academic opportunities and encouragement to all students in the Chautauqua County area. Tutoring programs help improve students’ love of learning, grades, and test scores, while enhancing self-esteem and promoting positive life-style and career choices. Tutoring has become the largest and the most comprehensive component of Chautauqua Striders programming and encompasses all age groups from kindergarten through high school at no charge to students or families.
Please check the program list for a school or facility near you. Click on the name for dates, times, contact numbers, and other pertinent information. If you need further assistance, feel free to call Chautauqua Striders’ main number at 488-2203.
High School Tutoring Tutorial programs for high school students occur at our main location on the second floor of the YMCA, Boys & Girls Club of Jamestown and Eastside YMCA. High school students from throughout the county come to these locations for help. Most students request help with math, the sciences, and social studies. Students who are involved with the Striders/YMCA Teen Center may also access help at the Lighted Schoolhouse. We also offer workshops for the P.S.A.T. and S.A.T. college prep exams and assistance with their college search.

Students Attaining Future Aspiration, Respect, and Inspiration
SAFARI Tutoring and Mentoring Program, located at Jamestown High School, is a regularly scheduled class that offers students academic assistance both during the school day and after school. SAFARI provides students with academic assistance, support, and guidance through one-to-one tutoring and academic mentoring. SAFARI’s unique combination of tutoring and mentoring allows for a holistic approach to improving academic performance. This method addresses social, emotional, and behavioral obstacles to student success, in addition to offering traditional academic assistance. With the consistent support of positive adult tutors and mentors, students are able to set meaningful academic goals and realize their potential to excel. Students who are interested in joining SAFARI should contact their guidance counselor. For more information, contact Program Coordinator, Galena Duba, at 483-4204.
