Mentoring Programs
Project Visions Community Based Youth Mentoring Program Sometimes a child just needs a friend or someone to talk with about their day. With the professional assistance of the school guidance staff, Project Visions Mentoring Program identifies youth and connects them with a caring adult. Last year mentors committed 1589 hours to middle school youth, which placed us slightly above the national average of one hour a week. In addition over 160 volunteer hours were provided by the youth in community service projects. Project Visions Mentoring Program at Chautauqua Striders matches middle school youth with adult mentors from the greater Jamestown area to spend time in one-on-one activities around the community. The match builds a special bond that serves the youth as they grow through their middle school years. Adults interested in mentoring should contact Project Visions Mentoring Program at 488-2203 ext. 229. Project Visions Technology Night in Teen Center
Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs Gear Up Project ME School Based Mentoring Experience NY GEAR UP is a grant that was awarded to Jamestown Community College aimed at promoting early college awareness and readiness for the current seventh grade cohort in Jamestown Public Schools. Chautauqua Striders is a NY GEAR UP community partner and will provide students with Project ME, “mentoring experiences.” Project ME matches caring adults with students in a school-based mentoring program. The qualifications are simple. All one has to do is be able to listen and have time to give. It is a great opportunity to not only give back to the community, but to make a difference in the life of a young person. Project “ME” will be a community, work and school-based program and offer a combination of one-on-one meetings between mentee and mentor, group projects and activities, life skill workshops and academic support. Like many Chautauqua Striders’ programs, Project “ME” with have a strong educational theme and compliment other GEAR UP programs. For more information about Project Me and the Gear UP program, please contact Lorraine Walker at 483-4384 ext. 5504.
